Accurately
squaring the ends of a belt prior to the
application of fasteners is definite insurance
against many common belt troubles. A properly
squared belt will track or train correctly
and will distribute the tension load evenly
through the joint.
When
laying out belt ends for the application
of Flexco and Alligator belt fasteners
make all measurements from a centerline
extending 15 to 20 feet from each end
of belt. Instead of simply drawing a center
line with the belt edges as a guide, use
the following method:
1.
At intervals of 3 to 5 ft. mark center
points in belt width, using a light colored
chalk or pencil.
2.
Draw an average center line with these
points as guides.
3.
A large steel square is used to make the
transverse line
at a point at which the belt is to be
cut. (See Fig. 1).
